Lost or Stolen Birds

It is hard to imagine the pain, grief and worry that occurs
when a feathered companion is lost or stolen.

Please check these pages on a regular basis
to see if perhaps you can reunite a bird with its owner.

If you have had a bird lost or stolen, please e-mail us immediately. We will put the information on this site as quickly as possible to assist you in your search for your cherished one. Please send us the type of bird, any distinguishing markings, band information, location lost or stolen, how to contact the owner, and any other helpful information (such as words the bird will speak, name of bird, picture, etc.) Also provide us with an email contact.

October 24, 1996 - Kingston, Ontario (90 miles north of Syracuse, NY on the border) there was a theft at Pet Paradise.

Stolen were:

  1. 5 week old Senegal
  2. 5 week old Meyers with a red band and the initials MW
Both still need to be handfed 3 times a day.

Please contact Michael Fine

Urgent Stolen Bird Notice:
Blue Skies Aviary in Tennessee was robbed on October 7, of almost all of their breeder pairs and several single birds. The theft appears to be a professional job, as the birds were inside a locked aviary building. The lock was dismantled and bypassed, and the cage wire on all the cages was cut around the padlocks. Following is a list of the birds stolen - if you hear of any of these birds for sale or know someone who just acquired a fairly large collection, please contact Sandra Dobbs at 423/658-6886 or bluskies@chatt.mindspring.com or the Marion County Sheriff's Dept. at 423/942-5667.

September 5, 1996 Some desperate friends asked me if I could post notices around about their lost cockatiel -- yellow, grey and white with orange circles on both sides of the head. It's quite friendly and may land on strangers' shoulders or at their bird feeders. The loss occurred in Weston, Connecticut about three weeks ago, and it's possible it's flown anywhere from New York City to Boston by now. The family is offering a reward. For more information, contact Jill O'Brien (203-454-5687, eves, or 203-356-0533, weekdays). My name is Joanne Spiegel and my e-mail address is 71420.2756 @ compuserve.com. We'd appreciate any help you could provide.
July 13, 1996 Her name is Taylor. She says her name often. She also says "give momma kiss" and does the wolf whistle very well. She has a band on her leg. She flew off my wife's shoulder on 7/13/96 in Wartburg, Tennessee. If found e-mail jerich@highland.net.
July 12, 1996 I have lost my male gray cockatiel. He is about 10 mo. old and few away on Friday 7/12/96 from our home in the south area of Hunsville, Alabama. He was sighted on 7/13 but hasn't been seen or heard since. If sighted or captured, please email me at adavis@traveller.com.
June 20, 1996 Yesterday a CAG was stolen from Country Critters Pet Store in Medford (Long Island), New York. "Stephanie Hawkins" was the pet of the store's owners. It talked up a storm. Some of its phrases were "Stephanie", and "I'm a Country Critter". It also could cough, sneeze, bark and meow - comes from living in a pet store. The owners are devastated.

The suspected thief is described as a white male in his 20's with a reddish moustache.

Given the bird's vocabulary, it should be easy to identify. If any of you hear of a bird matching Stephanie's description, you can call Country Critters [(516) 758-6777] or you can email me and I will contact Country Critters.

June 1, 1996 4 pairs of Hyacinth Macaws, 2 paid of Queen of Bavaria Conures, 16 golden tamerans (small monkey) were stolen Sat. June 1, 1996 from the American Bird Center in Goulds, Florida. The facility is owned by Robby addison and Cliff Simmons. There is a $50,000 reward for the arrest and succesful conviction of the thieves. Call Crime Stop at 1-305-471-8477 if you have info.
Mid-January 1996 A Moluccan Cockatoo named Sophia was stolen from a pet shop in Studio City, CA. Sophia is a treasured pet and was a boarder at the pet shop. This guy knew which bird he was after and it was obvious that this was planned.

Sophia is a 7 years old BIG Moluccan with bright coloring. She is very friendly. Her favorite saying is "Hi Sophia" which she says all the time. She also mumbles a lot.

The person who took Sophia was a white man approximately 30 years of age, had a medium build, and a pockmarked face. He ran out of the store and got into a 84 or 85 gray Mustang. The license plate was covered with paper.

The owner is heartbroken and has offered a $2000 reward for the safe return of Sophia.

Please contact Lisette M. Haigler at lisette@ix.netcom.com or PMNE40A@prodigy.com if you have any information about Sophia.

December 22, 1995 On Wednesday December 20th I purchased my first bird ever. It was a Senegal Parrot that I had put all of my money into, plus the remainder amount was a present from my whole family for Christmas. On Friday, just two days later, I surprised a robber that was breaking into my house. Much to my dismay he had ran off with "Sam" the Senegal. Can you help me at all? I live in Tucson, Arizona and I need help.

The burglar was identified as being a white male with a beard in his early thirties at about 5'10". If everyone could pass the info on to whoever they know it would be a good start. The bird had no band and wasn't chipped. Nothing else was stolen.

I received a call from a member of my bird club warning me of thefts of birds in my area. The word is that the burglar with the same MO is breaking into homes after he cuts the phone lines. Apparently if birds are in the homes they take them.

December 5, 1995 A greenwing macaw has been sighted several times in the same location over the past couple of weeks. The bird's human companion is unknown. The bird appears to be fully flighted and continues to return to a section of woods near Landover, Maryland, a suburb of Washington, DC. If you think you might be familiar with this parrot, please email Martha Gravlee, Bluesbird@msn.com.

November 6, 1995 Sometime today, a very large Blue & Gold Macaw was stolen from a home north of St. Paul, MN. This bird was well known to the merchants of a store in Forest Lake, MN since 1991 when the owners bought and finished hand-rearing their baby. Usually Rooney was brought to the store daily, but unfortunately not today.

Rooney says "Hi, I Love, Love you, pretty bird" but not much more. Needless to say, the owners are crushed and concerned for their missing family member. If the leg band remains, the letters are CJLMN 91. If you should hear anything, please write(lakesunl@winternet.com) or call Cheryl Lake at 1-800-634-2473.

September 1995 During a burglary of a veterinarian's home in Glendale, Arizona, a Mexican Redhead Amazon was stolen. Beaker is a good talker, favorite phrase is "where's Jerry." Beaker's ownership can be verified by his microchip.

If you have any information on Beaker's whereabouts, or about a break in in Glendale, AZ, please email Cathy Temple, 13608@ef.gc.maricopa.edu.
